Leadership Management and Leadership Team Building Exercises

Leadership team building is integrated with understanding the dynamics of team work. Leadership skills are developed through dynamic awareness amidst the group of people who are collectively responsible to achieve a shared goal. This is why teams are created in the first place.

If one member fails to perform, that can impact and hinder the collective goal. That is why development of leadership skills is considered important. When team members are unable to fulfill their individual roles, the lack of synergy impacts results.

The most important aspect to emphasize as part of leadership management is to improve collective performance and commitment to meeting shared goals.

Here are some simple exercises to reinforce the importance of commitment and collective performance in the workplace:

The Hot Seat Game

Instructions:

Select a chair and name it as “the hot seat.”  Keep a timer for 3 minutes. Each employee will have a turn to sit on the hot seat.  Once seated, the timer begins. The others can ask the seated person any kind of question in rapid-fire mode. The employees may be encouraged to ask questions that are meaningful and fun oriented.

Examples:

What were your greatest disappointments in your life?”

  • “If money consideration can be kept aside, what job would you pursue as a career? Why?”
  • What were your greatest disappointments in the current job profile? How did you overcome these disappointments?”
  • “If you could meet and have dinner with any person you admire, who would it be? What would you say??”
  • “What three words would you use to describe the work atmosphere and team members in this organization?”

Questions need not be serious. You can be as funny as you want by asking:

  • “What was the silliest thing you said in office?”

Impact:

This is a game that is a great way for team members to get to know each other.  It breaks the ice, creates better impressions and relaxes everyone totally at the workplace.

Stranded on an Island Game:

This is a very effective teambuilding activity in which employees are given a situation. They are told to identify objects they would bring if they got stranded on a deserted island.  Each employee has to explain what objects they chose and why.

The game can have groups comprising five to ten employees. Within groups, they can be further instructed to share the object. The main issue is how the group can improve the chances of survival by combining all the objects in different ways.

Around ten to fifteen minutes of time can be allotted for brainstorming. After this time, each group may present their ideas. The most creative group wins the prize.

The purpose of this game is to encourage creative thinking within teams, spark off a healthy, competitive spirit and the desire to stand together to achieve a common goal.

Across all organizations, the thrust of leadership management is to inspire all employees to maximize their performance through better team work and greater self awareness. In simple words, every action, behavior and discussion that the employees have paves way for a profound, tangible effect on the organization. That is why leadership management places such importance on leadership team building.
